On 17.09.2007 in Sofia a Founding meeting took place to create an non-profit association working in the public interest.
For most people who have interests in the field of healthcare the founders are known in one way or another. What is not known but what brings them together is that they have reacted in the same way to the choice whether to adapt or to react and act on the shortcomings. They share the same opinion on the way to change the system and encompass all its aspects. They call themselves by their first names.
In alphabetical order:
Asen Georgiev is the lawyer who not only organizes the process in Teodora Zaharieva's lawsuit and six other similar cases but also has been investigating and suggesting ideas to prevent damages by means of law and to remove the defects in the healthcare system for two years now.
Associate professor Valentina Tzekova is not only a well-known oncology scientist but also a prominent doctor. She is the manager of chemotherapy and radiotherapy clinic and she has been doing for years all she can to protect the rights of patients without being obliged to.
Doctor Diana Chinarska is a prominent doctor and is the secretary of the Ethics committee of the Bulgarian Doctors Association.
Zelma Almaleh - besides being a member of the Bulgarian Helsnki Committee she is a leading journalist with strong opinions and deep knowledge of the healthcare system.
Doctor Lubomir Kirov as the President of the association of general practitioners is one the most active figures in the activities to improve and control the laws, regulate the relationships among institutions and the public climate in healthcare.
Doctor Stoycho Katsarov is well-known not only with his competence but also with his principle positions that he defends and with his ongoing efforts to improve the health system.
Teodora Zaharieva is a symbol by herself not only because everybody should defend his rights but also is a symbol of the idea that in order to defend personal rights one must fight for the rights of everyone like yourself. Already with everybody at the Center.
The Center for Protection of Rights in Healthcare is governed by a Managing Board of three people:
