In a deliberate statement the Bulgarian dentists' association expresses its disagreement with the way by which the budget of the NHIS was determined in its part concerning dental healthcare. The main objection is related to the provision of 9 million leva for artificial teeth. This sum has been determined for the making of artificial teeth but there is no provision for the cost of check-up, preparation and insertion. Besides the same amount has been deducted from the current package of dental services to adults and children without mentioning which services exactly should be reduced in the package paid by the NHIS. It has been pointed out the provided funds will cover the needs of negligible little number of patients and the question is raised how the patients will be selected. According to the BDA this idea is analogous to the infamous initiative of the former minister of social affairs Maslarova - 'pensioner to the sea'.
